The Nyarofolo tribe of West Africa
Mindy is a friend of mine from work who has a heart for the Lord and a passion to see unreached people groups know the living and true God. She has just been accepted to serve on a small team of 6 healthcare workers who will be traveling through Cote d'Ivoire and Mali, West Africa, throughout the month of June. They will mainly be doing OB/GYN consults and deliveries, as well as dispensing vaccinations, immunizations, and medications.
The Nyarofolo people group is a largely unreached people group, with 0.5% professing Christianity, 30% Islam, and 30% Catholicism. The remainder continue to practice their traditional ethnic religions. The belief in various gods, ancestral spirits, and bush spirits, along with participation in witchcraft, magic and cults, are all a part of the daily life of the Nyarofolo. Until the 1990's, they had no written language, thus the culture is widely based on the oral tradition. Until recently they had no access to Scripture or of hearing the Good News of Jesus Christ. World Venture is working to translate Bibles into their tribal language and have them dispersed throughout the region.
Prayer Requests for Mindy and the team:
1. Overcoming Language Barriers (French and tribal)
2. Safety (Cote d'Ivoire remains on high-alert for the political instability in the region)
3. Health (malarial region)
4. Spiritual Protection against Satanic attact
5. Mutual encouragement and fellowship amongst team members
6. Opportunities to witness the Gospel penetrate this darkened community
7. Funds (Mindy has about $4000 to raise in a very short amount of time)
